Hi friends,
Wanted to quickly jump on the blog to share this Flight Therapy Green Smoothie with you! It’s one that I like to take before/after a long flight to keep my digestion in check. My recent trip to Australia has made this smoothie top of mind, and so I had to share with you.
If you’re anything like me (I have IBS) then travelling can be a little rocky on the tummy. I hate to rely on pills to help regulate my body before/after a flight, but instead like to focus my efforts on wholesome detox foods. That’s why I love taking this Flight Therapy Green smoothie.
My favourite part about this smoothie? The colour! It’s so important that I get in those greens before a long flight, and have it be the first thing I give my body when returning home. When you’re travelling it’s hard to know the next time you’ll see greens again. Airplane food can be a little trying, and so I like starting a trip with a green juice to ensure I’m one step ahead, and getting onto that plane in top form. I like to use frozen kale or spinach in my smoothies, in addition to some fresh herbs. Greens are antioxidant rich, debloating and detoxifying. Which will help to keep your body regular with all those changes going on when travelling.
So let’s talk about the herbs in this green smoothie: mint and parsley. This is also what helps give its vivid green hue. We all know mint is great for the digestive system, helping it relax and ease gas. This is KEY when travelling! There is nothing worse than being stuck on a plane for 16 hours in close quarters with strangers and an upset tummy! It’s the worst. But mint has a wonderful way of relaxing our tummies for flight prep, or healing it after we land. I even like to pack sachets of peppermint tea in my carry on bag, and then ask for some hot water when they offer tea at the end of your meal. Why they offer black tea after dinner, before we are all supposed to go to sleep, I’ll never understand! But mint is a surefire way to relax the bowels from all the crazy pressure and change in environment that occurs when we fly.
I also threw some parsley into this smoothie because of its detoxifying affects. Like mint, it’s rich in antioxidants and helps to cleanse the body and digestive system, decrease bloating, and has antibacterial properties. It’s even good for our breath! When I’m doing a cleanse parsley is high on my shopping list, and I throw it into smoothies by the handfuls. There was a point where I was adding so much parsley to my smoothies that I would yell to my husband in the other room, “Omg babe you have to try this! It tastes so much like PARSLEY!!” Let’s just say he didn’t come running. But don’t worry, I’ve toned down the amounts to make this smoothie skeptic approved. I too was a little hesitant the first time I took the leap in adding parsley to my smoothies. But you’re in for a pleasant surprise. Like mint, parsley adds a refreshing flavour. I can’t go without this healthful herb now, whenever i’m looking for a lean, clean and green smoothie to help rid my body of toxins.
Not to worry, I have added some fruit to sweeten this drink into a deliciously satifsying drink; using pineapple! Pineapple has got to be my favourite debloating fruit ATM. I’m so in love with how it enhances this smoothie for a delicious pina colada style drink. Plus it’s packed with vit C to help boost our metabolism, which is always a bit compromised after flying. For another vit C boost I’ve added a splash lime juice. And finally, I’ve added some chia seeds for healthy protein and fats (which also act as a digestive aid), and coconut water for some electrolytes.
As you can see this is a nutrient packed green smoothie that will help detoxify the body and help that digestive system normalize before or after a flight. There is no better feeling than taking off and landing in top form, especially when it comes in such a delicious and refreshing drink form.
Bottoms up babe! Have a happy and healthy flight.
