Why You’ll Love My Recipe

I have made my fare share of matcha recipes on this blog, and this matcha green tea morning smoothie is a favourite of mine for getting a good energy boost first thing when you wake up.

The recipe is quick and simple to make. I’ve added hemp hearts to the recipe, because I prefer using it over protein powder. This is an easy recipe to make to start your morning feeling zen and calmed. Overall, this smoothie uses only whole food ingredients like fresh spinach, banana and ceremonial grade matcha. I know you’re going to love it and that you’ll be making it time and again for breakfast.

Ingredient Notes

  • Ceremonial Grade Matcha – I have been a fan of matcha ever since I was a teenager! Drinking matcha is a daily ritual for me, I love how it makes me feel in body and mind – and much prefer starting my mornings with a matcha green tea over coffee. My preference is to use ceremonial grade matcha because it’s the highest quality and also has the best taste (not as bitter).
  • Hemp Hearts – I love adding hemp hearts to my smoothies instead of protein powder. It’s got a delicious nutty taste, and it doesn’t have a chalky taste that I usually find happens when I use protein powder in smoothies. But, if you have a favourite protein powder feel free to swap the hemp hearts for that!
  • Banana and dates – Used for sweetness in this recipe. When I was originally recipe testing this matcha smoothie I didn’t use bananas or dates, but I found that the recipes wasn’t sweet enough. Adding just one banana and one Medjool date gives this smoothie the perfect sweetness and also pops of banana and caramel flavour which is so lovely.
