Looking for an easy vegan gravy? Your prayers have been answered with this stellar simple recipe. This easy vegan gravy is FULL of flavour. It’s lush, creamy and rich with all the umami flavour we’re looking for in a good gravy.
This gravy uses flavour-rich ingredients like miso, tamari, and nutritional yeast to get that perfect flavour you’ll lick your plate for. Trust me, it certainly measures it up to the traditional kind. Serve it to any vegan skeptic and watch them pour and devour.
So, let’s get into how to make this delicious easy vegan gravy.
Here’s what you’ll need to make this Easy Vegan Gravy:
What I love most about this vegan gravy is just how simple it is to throw together.
There are a few not-so-typical ingredients like white miso and nutritional yeast, but once you have them on hand the recipe is fast to make. Simply throw the ingredients into a blender, pour into a saucepan and heat. (And, ingredients like miso and nutritional yeast are pantry staples in my home. I use it for so many recipes on this blog to add umami or cheesiness to dishes. So, I promise they will come in handy.)
Unlike most vegan gravy recipes that are time consuming – made by cooking veg first and blending together – this gravy is effortless to create. Just what we need when there’s a whole Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner to prepare! Certainly, it’s a recipe that can be left to the last minute, and made quick. And the flavours OH MY! You won’t believe something so simple can taste so good.
There isn’t much involved to nailing this Quick and Easy Vegan Gravy. After all, I did say it’s easy! But I do have a few tid-bits of advice to make the process simple and fuss-free.
I recommend to blend the ingredients (minus the vegan butter) together in a blender, to ensure it’s smooth and well combined. And then transfer to a saucepan with vegan butter to warm and thicken. The reason is because arrowroot starch can clump easily, and even with a whisk it can be hard to whip out the clumps. Blending the ingredients together first really helps create a smooth consistency.
You can also sub the arrowroot powder for cornstarch or all-purpose flour. These substitutes also work well. The purpose of this ingredient is to thicken the gravy, not to give any additional flavour. So feel free to use what you have on hand.

So, what to serve with this Quick and Easy Vegan Gravy? Anything you love having gravy with, of course!
Pour over baked potatoes or mashed, stuffing, and roasted veg. In our family, gravy is a Thanksgiving and Holiday staple. Dinner is just not the same without it.
I particularly enjoy this vegan gravy with my Mushroom and Spinach Baked Potatoes, Nut Roast and Festive Falafels.

My gravy didn’t get very thick but it was tasty. I made it with the spinach and mushroom stuffed potato. Very good and filling. Can the gravy be frozen?
I trialed this recipe tonight in advance of the holidays and it was so good! Definitely will be making it for Christmas dinner!
So thrilled about this Katie! I hope you love it as much as I do.
I made this a day in advance and it was a hit on the Nut Roast or potatoes. I would never buy a can of gravy ever again. So Creamy and delicious. Way better than any store bought product.
I’m thrilled you enjoyed it Shira! We love it too and I make it all the time for holidays and gatherings! It’s always a hit with the non-vegans too! Thanks for the very kind comment. 🙂
