How to make the ultimate fruit platter

It’s Tropical Fruit Vibes with this plentiful fruit platter to start the week. This one is an arrangement of fresh fruits like pineapple, mango, passion fruit, orange, kiwi and strawberries. Served with coconut yogurt to dip. It is the ultimate fruit platter!

Okay, so this isn’t really a recipe blog post per se, more than it is a blog post to talk about how to take your fruit platter to the next level. There are simple tips that you can turn to when prepping fruit platters for get-togethers with friends, brunch with the family, picnics, or any other event in your life where you are feeding a big group of people. I love making fruit trays under all sorts of different circumstances because they are so beautiful, healthy and well received.

Often times we get anxious over the thought of feeding a large group. Heck, I’m a food fanatic and still I get nervous about it! There are so many things to factor in from the people who are coming, to food allergies, to age and gender, and preferred diets. Not to mention when you’re hosting at yours the logistics of set-up and other small tasks around the house that need to be completed before your guests arrive. Oooy! Stress city. Just know that you’re not alone in these feelings.

Entertaining can be a little daunting, but party food doesn’t need to be.

Over the years I’ve noticed it’s the simple recipes that are best received by large crowds. And a unique fruit platter is no exception. A fruit platter, which is beautifully presented, is sure to get you those ooooh’s and aaaahhh’s, and will be a popular area for the crowd to munch and mingle.

Best of all it’s easy yet impressive – when you keep a few tips in mind. This fruit platter took me all of 20 minutes to chop and style, and I spent extra time on it because I wanted it pretty enough to shoot and post on the blog. The point is, fruit platters are easy to create and always come out beautiful and impressive. So use it to your advantage when it comes to entertaining.

So, how do we spruce up the “generic” fruit and veggie trays?

  1. Try adding fruits that aren’t common. We’ve all seen the pre-made fruit trays at Loblaws. You know, the one with the cantaloupe, watermelon, and grapes? Been there, done that. If you want to take your fruit platters to the next level incorporate some fruits that people don’t often put on their shopping list. Like passionfruit, dragon fruit or mangoes.
  2. Pick a colour scheme, this one’s theme is orange and yellow, but I’ve also seen some purple and blue ones that are just stunning!
  3. Showcase the “throw aways.” As you can see I’ve done this here with the pineapple head. Of course I don’t expect anyone to chomp down on those spikey leaves, but it makes a beautiful addition to the platter. Do the same with the stems of your strawberries, or keep the skin on your pineapple and kiwis. Your guests can bite into them like mini watermelons.

Instructions
  1. Thinly slice fruits, removing skins as needed, and style on a serving tray or wooden cutting board. Scoop coconut yogurt into ramekins and serve alongside fresh fruit for dipping.
